Basketball and Wrestling Play-off Update

by Dennis Rahm

February snowstorms on both sides of the Cascade mountains have created a multitude of traffic and travel issues that also triggered several post season basketball and wrestling events to be postponed.

Wrestlers will compete in Mat Classic Tournament in Tacoma starting Friday

Regional wrestling events throughout the entire state were called off by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association on Saturday. The WIAA is working out details of a plan that will result in the Regionals being bypassed all together meaning that all wrestlers who qualified for the Regionals will now move forward into a 32-entry Mat Classic Tournament beginning Friday morning, February 15 at the Tacoma Dome. 12 Chelan wrestlers will be included in the expanded field of competitors at Mat Classic XXXI.

Chelan Girls and Boys Basketball play in loser-out district games on Monday

The recent storm also resulted in postponing the District Basketball tournament games that had been scheduled to be played last Saturday at Eastmont High School. The basketball tourney will now start on Monday with the four games scheduled games to be played at Wenatchee High School. The Lady Goats will play at 3 o’clock against Okanogan while the Chelan boys will play at 4:30 versus Omak. Both Chelan teams are in must win games in order to advance to the next round of the District tourney which will be played this Wednesday evening at Brewster high school.

See the first night tournament schedule below and remember that both Monday games will be broadcast live on LakeChelanNow.com with Dennis Rahm.
