Two additional Remote Automated Weather Stations (RAWS) are now operational on the Little Giant Fire ahead of potential weekend precipitation. One was installed in the Chiwawa River corridor and the other near Shady Pass.

These advanced stations provide real-time, highly localized precipitation measurements. By delivering precise data from these critical zones, the new stations will help incident meteorologists to more accurately monitor weather patterns and anticipate the potential for debris flows.

A spokesperson for the Little Giant Fire information team indicated the weather stations “are not permanent,” saying “they will be removed at the end of the fire season or sooner if there is need for them elsewhere.”
