Struggling to make ends meet? Chelan PUD is offering eligible customers 25% discounts on monthly utility bills. The utility is partnering with Promise to make it easy for customers to apply for and get the support they need. The new program launched this week.

“We’ve had great experience working with our program partner, Promise, and we know they’ll ensure our customers can easily access these discounts,” said Customer Service Program Analyst Cathy Melton. “Promise has worked with utilities across the U.S. to streamline program administration and bring value to customers.”

The discounts expand on past assistance programs so more people qualify based on their household size and income. The 25% discount applies to the household’s base charge and usage, which roughly doubles the amount of assistance most people will get. The billing discount also applies to eligible water and wastewater customers.

“We know that the cost of living is increasing, including expenses for housing, groceries and other essentials. While Chelan PUD has some of the lowest rates in the nation, we saw an opportunity to build on our assistance programs,” Melton said.

Households with a combined income below 80% of Chelan County’s area median income, or up to 200% of the federal poverty level, may qualify. See if your household is eligible:

How to apply

Chelan PUD has partnered with Promise to provide a fast and easy application online. Customers just need a smartphone or computer with an internet connection.

In-person applications are available through Chelan-Douglas Community Action. Customers can also call Chelan PUD at (509) 661-8002 for assistance.

Customers already receiving the low-income senior or disabled discount will automatically move to the new program. They do not need to re-apply.
