Manson School District is excited to announce the hiring of Anita Johanson as the next Principal of Manson Elementary School beginning July 1, 2026, pending Board approval.

Mrs. Johanson currently serves as a science and leadership teacher at Manson Middle School and has been a leader in advancing student leadership, school culture, and the district’s strategic priorities since joining Manson School District in 2018. A National Board Certified Teacher, Mrs. Johanson has also served the district as Summer School Director, After School Director, ASB Advisor, and classroom teacher across multiple grade levels and content areas. Prior to joining Manson, she served as a Federal and State Programs Director in Pateros and taught in Cascade School District.

Throughout her time in Manson, Mrs. Johanson has been deeply involved in the district’s strategic plan work and implementation of the Leader in Me framework, including helping lead student leadership and culture efforts through the middle school Lighthouse Team.

Superintendent Tabatha Mires shared excitement about the selection and the future of Manson Elementary School. “Anita is a thoughtful, student-centered leader who understands our community, our values, and the work we are committed to through our strategic plan,” said Mires. “She believes deeply in developing leadership in students and staff, building strong relationships, and creating schools where students feel known, supported, challenged, and connected. Anita brings both leadership skills and a deep commitment to Manson.”

Mrs. Johanson shared her excitement and appreciation for the opportunity to continue serving Manson students and families in this new role.

“Manson is more than just a place I work. Manson is a community I care deeply about and have invested in,” Johanson said. “I love everything about our schools and the unique sense of pride, community, and family that I feel when I walk through the doors or when I’m watching one of our sporting events.” She continued, “I want to continue to serve the students and families here, and I’m excited about the opportunity to help lead a school where students feel supported, staff feel empowered, and the entire community feels connected.”

Mrs. Johanson will replace current Elementary Principal Ben Riippi, who will transition into the role of Manson Middle School Principal and State and Federal Programs Director beginning July 1.

The district expressed appreciation for the involvement of staff, students, families, and community members throughout the interview and selection process. Finalists participated in a comprehensive interview process that included formal interviews, leadership conversations, data analysis facilitation, school tours, and opportunities for staff and community feedback.

Manson School District looks forward to supporting Mrs. Johanson as she begins this important leadership role and continues the strong work happening across Manson Elementary School.
