District Among State and National Leaders in Teacher Excellence

information released

The Lake Chelan School District proudly recognizes five outstanding educators who have earned or maintained National Board Certification, one of the most respected professional recognitions in the field of education.

This year, three educators earned initial certification:

● Melissa Collins – Certified in Literacy: Reading–Language Arts

● Misty McHargue – Certified as a Generalist

● Jess Poland – Certified in Career and Technical Education (CTE)

In addition, two veteran educators successfully renewed their National Board Certification:

● Kayli Crosby

● April Slagle

With these newest accomplishments, Lake Chelan School District now has 24 National Board Certified Teachers. The district is one of only seven school districts in Washington state, and one of just 14 school districts in the entire nation, where more than 30 percent of the teaching staff hold this prestigious distinction.

National Board Certification is a rigorous, performance-based process that affirms a teacher’s practice against the highest professional standards. It demonstrates a deep commitment to student learning, reflective teaching, and continuous improvement.

“These educators are shining examples of our district’s core values,” said Superintendent Brad Wilson. “Their pursuit of excellence through National Board Certification reflects a deep commitment not only to their own professional growth but also to the success of every student in our district. Their leadership strengthens our schools and our community.”

National Board Certification directly supports the Lake Chelan School District’s mission to ensure academic, social, and emotional success for every student through meaningful teaching, dedicated staff, and strong community engagement.
