Chelan and Manson both win opening football games
By Dennis Rahm
It was a great Friday night of football for the Chelan Goats and the Manson Trojans as both teams won their season openers in impressive fashion.
Chelan rushed for 6 of their 7 touchdowns in defeating visiting Brewster 47-27 before an enthusiastic crowd at Sargent Field.
The Chelan offense was led by Sr. Quarterback Quin Stamps who ran for three scores and also threw a 30-yard touchdown pass to Kyle Jackson. Tobin Weir also ran for two touchdowns for the Goats. Overall the Goats played well defensively, but they did have breakdowns in special teams play as Brewster scored twice on 90-yard kickoff returns.
The 1-0 Goats hit the road next week for a non-league matchup at Warden starting at 7pm Friday.
Meanwhile, the Manson Trojans opened the season with an impressive shut-out win on the road by defeating Soap Lake 40-0. The defending league champion Trojans look to have another powerful roster this year.
The Trojans will play their first home game of the season as they host Oroville Friday night at 7pm.
