Chelan Announces Student-Athletes of the Week

Submitted by CHS Athletic Director, Rob Rainville

Coaches nominate individuals for outstanding effort and participation. CHS and CMS are pleased to recognize Student-Athletes of the Week, and present the nomination write-up from their coaches.

Each student-athlete winner will be given a BC MacDonalds gift card for a free cheeseburger, fries and drink. Chelan Schools appreciates the generosity of Afni and Brent MacDonald for their support of the Lake Chelan School District and Chelan Athletics.
Congrats to our Student-Athletes of the week. Thanks to all of you, for all your support, and we look forward to seeing everyone this week supporting Chelan Athletics.

GO PIRATES!  GO GOATS!

Kira Sandoval – 8th grade Volleyball

Kira has been splitting time on the A and B team and this week showed just how much she has improved. Kira is a first year volleyball player and worked hard to not only learn the skills, but the game itself. She continually asks questions and has picked up the game very quickly. It is the coaching staffs’ hopes that she will continue with volleyball as we feel she is really going to be a key contributor to the Lady Goat program! Great job Kira – Coach Reister/Coach Arebalo

Braiden Boyd – 8th grade Football

Braiden orchestrated a beautiful game against a great Orchard football team to get our first win of the season. At times he showed maturity in the pocket which enabled him to make good choices on the field. Braiden had a great night throwing the ball as well as running the ball for multiple touchdowns. Braiden has become a leader among his teammates this year and continues to be a leader in school as well. – Coach Plummer/Coach Boyd

Katie Rainville -HS Volleyball

Katie stepped up and worked hard at changing positions for the team.  She took on playing as a middle hitter and blocker for us.  Katie made a strong presence at the net for all three matches.  She stepped in to a critical role for the team when we needed it the most.  I appreciate that she does what is best for the team and puts her team first.  Here are her combined stats from Cashmere, Lakeside and Freeman matches:  kills 14, blocks 7, digs 19, serving 31/35 = 89%, and ace serves= 14%. – Coach Jen Rainville

Maritza Blanco – HS Soccer

Maritza has been a consistent leader both on and off the field. She works hard every day and it shows on the field. Maritza stepped in as keeper last Thursday against Cashmere when Ashley got hurt and played a tough game and made a ton of saves. She also scored the only goal against Cashmere!

She’s been a great role model for the rest of the team and we will miss her next year. – Coach Williams/Coach Longmire

CMS NOMINEES

Juliana Perez – 8th grade Volleyball

Juliana has been a leader all season as a setter and contributed at every match. Juliana finalized her season with a huge match against IRMS as her hitting setting passing and serving all clicked tonight. Congratulations on a great season – Coach Reister/Coach Arebalo

Josie Garfoot – 7th grade Volleyball

Josie is an all-around player.  She has skills in all areas, but some of her most recognizable traits are her ability to lead her team, stay positive and encourage others in our successes and our struggles.  She has a steady serve which allows her to meet her goal of serving 100% during our games, and this comes from working hard in practice along with her competitive spirit to always get better.  We consider Josie a quiet but fierce leader, as she leads by example!  – Coach Gleasman, Coach Spanjer and Coach Christopherson

Carly Hefley-  7th grade Volleyball

Carley has most definitely been one of our most improved since the beginning of the season.  Carley has worked diligently on her serve, making amazing progress. This past week she served her team into a win with 9 serves in a row, and then finishing the game with the last two points.  Sometimes it’s not easy to serve “game point” but Carley has pushed herself to meet her goals at the serving line and it shows.  She is a positive team player, always cheering on her team whether in the game or on the bench, we had so proud of her desire to improve in all areas of the game.   – Coach Gleasman, Coach Spanjer and Coach Christopherson

Isaac Wilson – 7th grade Football

Isaac has played great on both sides of the ball.   Has a never quit attitude! He is giving us great leadership on offense as our QB. Keep it up Isaac. – Coach Harris/Coach Lehman

Catherine Martinez – MS XC

Catherine has continued to improve every meet this year.  She is a very hard worker in practice and has consistently been a top finisher at our weekly meets.  We look forward to Catherine’s 8th grade season next year! – Coach Polley

George Neff- MS XC

George finished off his 7th grade season with a strong finish in Quincy.  Throughout the season George has improved with every race and has proven to be a good team leader. In addition to his athleticism as a runner, George is just a great kid! – Coach Polley

CHS NOMINEES

Tobin Weir – HS Football

Tobin led all WR’s with 7 receptions for 122 yards on great effort. He led all rushers with 47 yards on 4 carries. He also had over 5 tackles and an interception on defense. Tobin continues to lead his team with effort on both sides of the ball. – Coach Domser

Teegan Silva – HS XC

Teegan continues to be a great leader and has run great this season. We hope she has her best day yet at Districts this week. Nice Job Teegan. – Coach Anderson/Coach Fox

Ezequiel Camps – HS XC

Ezequiel has continued to get better each week and has done a great job this year, especially in his mile interval times. Great job Ezequiel. – Coach Anderson/Coach Fox

Emma McLaren – HS Volleyball

Emma led the goats to a victory in 5 sets against our league rival, Cascade.  Emma was a dominate hitter and had amazing defense.  She led the goats with 20 kills.  She also had 1 block, 17 digs, #1 in serve receive and was 27/28 from the service line.  Emma continues to be a great example of a committed teammate that puts the team first.  She is positive and encouraging but firm and has high expectations of herself and teammates. – Coach Jen Rainville

Christian Torres – HS Football

Christian led team in total yardage on Kickoff returns. He had a total of 130 yards on 3 returns and took one in for a touchdown. He sparked his team in start of the second half. The touchdown was the longest play scoring play we have had all year. – Coach Domser

Bella Gatzemeier – HS Volleyball

Bella had an overall outstanding week against Omak and Cashmere (weekly stats: 30/31 serving, solid passing, 9 kills, and 15 assists). She was a consistent force and a fierce competitor. We lost to Cashmere earlier in the season and worked hard to beat them the second time around. Bella was a crucial factor in our win against Cashmere. She has been a great leader on and off the court, loyal to her teammates, and dedicated to the sport. I am proud of Bella’s improvements and desire to constantly improve every day! –  Coach Froman
