Chelan Announces Student-Athletes of the Week

Submitted by CHS Athletic Director, Rob Rainville

Coaches nominate individuals for outstanding effort and participation. CHS and CMS are pleased to recognize Student-Athletes of the Week, and present the nomination write-up from their coaches.

Each student-athlete winner will be given a BC MacDonalds gift card for a free cheeseburger, fries and drink. Chelan Schools appreciates the generosity of Afni and Brent MacDonald for their support of the Lake Chelan School District and Chelan Athletics.

Congratulations to our Student-Athletes of the week. Thanks to all of you, for all your support, and we look forward to seeing everyone this week supporting Chelan Athletics.

GO PIRATES!  GO GOATS!

 CHS Wrestling – JC Austin

JC Austin won the Coyote Classic, beating a tough Ellensburg wrestler. He has also wrestled outstanding, state qualifying wrestlers throughout the year. He has constantly improved and elevated each week this season. He is a team leader at 29-5 on the season! — Coach Jordan

8th Grade Basketball – Kassidy Wilfong

Kassidy works extremely hard in practice and has really improved her post moves — Coach Haerling

NOMINEES

Wrestling – Angel “Pumba” Mendoza

Angel brought back his first tournament championship this weekend. He wrestled extreme tough. He has also improved tremendously over the season. He is a great team member. He is always mat side cheering on his teammates every chance he can! — Coach Jordan

Girls Basketball – Ashley Sams

Ashley had a great week against Omak and Cashmere. She averaged 10.5 points per game while shooting 82% from the field. She tied for leading the team in rebounding with 12 boards. She was impressive taking 2 charges against Omak. To put that in perspective, the girls’ basketball team took 2 charges all season last year and Ashley tied that in 1 game. Ashley is often the first player to practice and brings a great attitude and great work ethic with her. — Coach Huddleston

Boys Basketball – Quin McLaren

“Quin has been the ultimate competitor for the Goats this season. His fearless, back-down-from-no-one attitude is on display every time he takes the court. Quin has shown many leadership qualities and his teammates love to play with him! He’s helped his team to an 8-4 record including a big win over the Cashmere Bulldogs on Saturday. Even though he’s a freshman, we expect Quin to make some serious noise for the Chelan Goats Basketball Program in the future!” — Coach Pearl
