Chelan Announces Student-Athletes of the Week
Submitted by CHS Athletic Director, Rob Rainville
Coaches nominate individuals for outstanding effort and participation. CHS and CMS are pleased to recognize Student-Athletes of the Week, and present the nomination write-up from their coaches.
Each student-athlete winner will be given a BC MacDonalds gift card for a free cheeseburger, fries and drink. Chelan Schools appreciates the generosity of Afni and Brent MacDonald for their support of the Lake Chelan School District and Chelan Athletics.
Congratulations to our Student-Athletes of the week. Thanks to all of you, for all your support, and we look forward to seeing everyone this week supporting Chelan Athletics.
GO PIRATES! GO GOATS!
Juliana Perez – 8th Grade Volleyball
Juliana has been a leader all season as a setter and contributed at every match. Juliana finalized her season with a huge match against IRMS as her hitting setting passing and serving all clicked tonight!
Congratulations on a great season Juliana. –Coach Reister, Coach Arebalo
Varsity Volleyball Team – HS Volleyball
I’d like to nominate the whole Varsity Volleyball team for student-athlete of the week. The entire team worked hard to take down the Cascade Kodiaks in the District 6 championship match, as well as winning the Regional Championship v Colville. These wins have earned this team a trip back to Yakima @ the Sundome to compete at State. I am proud of how we stayed calm and played with determination. It has been quite a few years since we have had the CTL Championship Trophy and a District 6 Trophy back in Chelan, and it feels great! All the girls helped make this happen! – Coach Jenifer Rainville
CMS Nominees
Makayla Garfoot – 7th Grade Volleyball
We couldn’t be more excited to nominate Makayla. She is an overall consistent player who puts her team before herself. She is extremely aware of the court and the teammates who are on the court with her. She is able to adjust to what is happening around her quickly. Makayla is the quiet, but calming confident teammate, She is the first to praise them, and the first in helping them improve. She is an amazing server who works hard daily on serving to meet her goals. Makayla competes fierce to be successful not only for herself but most importantly her team. She is without a doubt a top pick for player of the week – Coach Gleasman, Coach Spanjer, Coach Christopherson
Mia Sollar – 7th Grade Volleyball
Mia has improved in all areas of volleyball. She continues to be a constant worker on the court. She goes after every ball, helps her teammates to be successful and has great confidence at the serving line. Mia was a game changer for her team in Moses Lake. She led them to an exciting win. This was not surprising, as Mia is able to get her team moving in the right direction with her confidence and skills. She is another “steady eddy” due to her ability to bounce back when things might not be going our way. This is not easy to do, but she finds a way to keep pushing. She is very competitive, which is a great trait to have as a student-athlete. We are happy to nominate her as athlete of the week! – Coach Gleasman, Coach Spanjer, Coach Christopherson
Malachi Chavez – 7th Football
Malachi came on strong the last couple weeks. He was a hard tackler and had a vital fourth down stop in the red one with a big hit of our last game!! Great season Malachi- Coach Harris and Coach Lehman
CHS Nominees
Chris Knight/Mireya Garibay/Teegan Silva – HS Cross-Country
We couldn’t be more excited to nominate these 3 runners. They earned a spot to compete in the XC State Championships and they competed well. Great season for these 3 runners and all our XC student-athletes. – Coach Anderson, Fox, & Granados
JD Gonzales – HS Football
This week JD Gonzales led a 3 quarter shut out on defense recording 10 tackles at Middle Linebacker. He has started 8 games as a sophomore and has proven himself to be a force in the middle. He has a great attitude and plays scout middle linebacker when we practice offense. He plays with great effort and enthusiasm in games and in practice. – Coach Domser and Staff
