In the team competition, the Chelan Girls placed second and the Boys fourth. Cashmere captured the Girls title and Cascade won the Boys Championship.
While only one team advances to the State Championship, the Chelan squads will advance three individual runners to State as a result of their finishing in the top seven. For the Lady Goats, sophomore Mereya Gariby finished a strong fifth overall with a time of 20:55.72. Right on her heels was freshman Teagan Silva who finished sixth with a time of 20:56.46.
In the boy’s race, junior Chris Knight of Chelan qualified for the State Championship by finishing in fifth place with a time of 16:59.51.
Chelan Head Coach Mark Anderson said he was pleased by the effort of both squads and that he liked how they ran together as a team.
The State Cross Country Championships will be held on Saturday, November 3 at Sun Willows Golf Course in Yakima.
