Defense a key contributor to victory

by Dennis Rahm

Five turnovers forced by the Chelan Defense, including an interception by Ethan Kehl, were instrumental in the Goats’ Friday night win over the visiting Cascade Kodiaks by the score of 41-13.

On offense, Chelan was led by Quarterback Reed Stamps who threw four touchdown passes and rushed for another. Quin McLaren and Dillon McCardle each caught two touchdown passes from Stamps and running back Julio Alatorre also scored on a rushing touchdown.

Head Coach Travis Domser said “the team played with great effort and a winning attitude”. Domser said his team is grateful for the win in their opening game of the season, but noted it’s time to move on and prepare to face a big, tough and physical Omak team next week.

The Goats, 1-0, travel to Omak to take on the Pioneers next Friday at 7 pm in a Caribou Trail League contest. The game will be the first of the season for Omak.
