“Prepare at the Fair” on Saturday, September 21

Information submitted by Chelan Fire & Rescue

On September 21, 2019, Chelan Fire & Rescue will be hosting a Safety Fair at Station 71 located at 232 E. Wapato Ave in Chelan. This family fun event will be from 10 AM – 3 PM., and include information, activities and exhibits that will help community members learn valuable ways to keep their family and homes safe from fire and other disasters.  Community members are invited to come and also enjoy touring the fire station, talking to firefighters and viewing a variety of emergency vehicles.

This event is designed to help members of the community learn more about available fire and life safety resources and steps they can take to be involved as well as, how to be better prepared should disaster strike.  There will be interactive stations that will provide information on a number of important topics such as; Disaster Communications; Home Fire Safety and Firewise, a program designed to help residents learn the best way to make their home and neighborhoods more safe from wildfire.

Firefighters believe that it is important for residents to take personal responsibility for their safety and know what to do in an emergency.  Getting help quickly is important, and knowing what to do before help arrives is critical. Knowing CPR and basic first aid can save a life and reduce injuries. Mitigating hazards in the home, having working smoke alarms and knowing how to use a fire extinguisher are important things to know.

Our community has and will continue to be threatened by wildfires, it’s important to know the simple and easy ways residents can reduce a home’s risk of being destroyed by wildfire and how to get timely and important information.  Chelan Fire & Rescue also wants residents to know how they can get involved and be a part of the department, whether it’s being a volunteer firefighter, being part of the support services team or the auxiliary, these all play important roles in the services the department provides. Information on all of the above mentioned topics will be available at the Safety Fair along with some fun kid activities. So we hope everyone will join Chelan Fire and Rescue and “Prepare at the Fair”.
