Project information and advisories for the week of April 20
information released; photo above: Watch for road crews repairing a sinkhole on lower Burch Mountain Road. A resident alerted us to the hole late last week. The road is at one lane in the work zone. Plan to see flaggers on Burch Mountain Road most of this week
The Wenatchee crew continues to work on a large sinkhole on lower Burch Mountain Road, near Harlow Lane. Crews began investigating the magnitude of the problem on Friday. A portion of the culvert that carries stormwater off the mountain has collapsed under the roadway.
Traffic is at one lane near the hole. Flaggers are directing traffic during the day and we will cover the hole with steel plates during the evening until the roadway is repaired. Please avoid the area this week if you can. If you must be in the impacted area, obey signage and watch for other motorists.
This week in Cashmere, the crew will be crack sealing roads in the Dryden area. If you come upon our crews working, plan for one-lane traffic with flaggers directing motorists. Crews will be in the Dryden area about six working days. In Entiat, watch for the crew grading on Johnson Creek Road.
Attention Cone Thief:
Things like this are a little hard to write because we are very appreciative of how much the public supports its county road crews. We feel the love all the time.
We all know that Beaver Hill near Plain, site of a slide this past winter, has been a struggle to keep up with for the past several months. We have a plan in place for a permanent fix that’s coming after school gets out. These last several weeks, someone has been stealing our traffic cones and safety signs that we have repeatedly put on the roadway at Beaver Hill. We’d like them back. Or, at the very least, for the thievery to stop so our safety signage remains in place.
Our Leavenworth shop is at 10210 County Shop Road. If you have a windfall of cones and signs (that say Chelan County on them), just drop them off there. Or, if you see anyone lifting our equipment, give us a call at 667-6415 with a detailed message about what these folks look like and (fingers crossed) a description of a vehicle and license plate. We will pass the info along to our friends in the Sheriff’s Office.
Wildflower Season:
If you are headed to one of our canyons for wildflower viewing, remember to get those vehicles off the pavement when parking. Our canyons are narrow with soft shoulders that often are next to steep embankments. There are few safe roadside parking areas in our canyons.
If you park your car in the roadway, it causes a lot of problems, including blocking emergency vehicles from responding to a call. Consider taking a shuttle to trailheads or having a friend serve as your personal porter. Don’t risk a traffic ticket or a tow!
Totem Pole Road Project:
The contractor continues to work on stormwater improvements on South Harris Avenue, which is closed. We’re hoping to see the contractor wrap up on Harris Avenue soon. For more information on the Totem Pole Road Improvement Project, go to the project webpage.
