Coach Benson is already a familiar face within the Chelan basketball community, having previously served as the Chelan Boys Basketball Varsity Assistant Coach from 2017–2019. During his time with the program, Benson played a key role in assisting with daily practices, developing opponent game plans, and organizing offseason open gyms while helping build a strong culture within the program.
Benson brings a wealth of basketball experience and leadership to the Goats. He played four years of collegiate basketball at Doane College from 2009–2013, competing in one of the top NAIA conferences in the country. A two-year starting guard and team captain during his senior season, Benson helped lead Doane to a No. 8 national ranking and a school-record 21-win season.
Before college, Benson starred at Brewster High School, where he played four years on the varsity level. During his prep career, Brewster appeared in three state championship games, capturing the 2007 state title.
“This is an excellent opportunity and I’m excited to be the Head Coach of this program! It’s going to be fun engaging with these student-athletes and having the community rally behind a competitive group of young men. Let’s Go Goats!” – Head Coach Austin Benson

His leadership, professionalism, and commitment to the Chelan community make him an excellent role model for student-athletes.
