Local Students Travel the World during Summer Break

by Dennis Rahm

Chelan teacher Jeff Pearl is passionate about the benefits of travel and experiencing other parts of the world. As a matter of fact, the Middle School Social Studies teacher has visited more than 50 countries, including trips to Europe, Southeast Asia, Central America, and South America.

Pearl is a proponent of encouraging Chelan students to experience the benefits of travel and earlier this summer led a group of 30 youngsters on a Rome to Athens excursion that included a four-day Greek Island cruise. Students were especially impressed by a visit to the Vatican.

“Travel provides students the opportunity to look at the world through a different set of lenses”, said Pearl during a recent interview with LakeChelanNow.

“Travel provides once in a lifetime experiences” — Jeff Pearl

Students who made the trip ranged from incoming freshmen to 2019 graduates. Pearl, who was selected as Chelan School District Employee of the Year in 2018, has no doubt in his mind that the trip will change their lives. Pearl and Spanish teacher,Rebecca Benson, will continue to lead student summer trips in the coming years.

A quick search on Google reveals several benefits to travel such as broadening horizons, boosting confidence, creating peace of mind, learning to know yourself and enhancing tolerance and creating lifetime memories.  Health benefits include a lower risk of depression, relieving stress and increasing satisfaction with life.
