Trojans Win in Overtime Against Tonasket

OT Victory Earns Manson An Important League Win

Game Recap 9/28/2018 @ Tonasket Final score: Manson 24 Tonasket 18  OT

Manson was able to obtain another league win this Friday in a thrilling fashion. Manson scored early on their first offensive drive when Avery pounded in a 1-yard touchdown run behind Center Bryan Bernardo. Tonasket answered right back with a score and the game was tied 6-6 at the end of the first quarter. Manson scored again on a nice run by Running Back Marco Sanchez.

Manson went into the half with a 12-9 lead. In the 2nd half Manson sputtered on offense and Tonasket was able to tie the game with another field goal 12-12. The game stayed tied until just under 3 minutes in the 4th quarter when Avery Thompson found Marco Sanchez on a 70-yard bomb for a TD. The sideline erupted, but there was still time on the clock for Tonasket. Tonasket quickly worked the ball down the field and scored on a passing play as well. Luck was on Manson’s side however and the extra point was pulled to the left. The game would go into overtime tied 18-18.

Manson had the ball first in overtime and the offensive line and Bailey Cameron put the team on their backs and marched 24 yards down the field to the 1-yard line. Avery punched the ball in again from 1 yard out. Manson failed to score on the 2-pt. conversion and the score was 24-18 with Tonasket given a chance to match. Tonasket marched down the field as well, but just when it looked like they were going to score Bryan Bernardo punched the ball out of the running back’s hands and Parker Schoenwald recovered the ball in the end zone to end the game.

“The boys showed a lot of heart tonight and came together as a family. Even though we made a ton of mistakes and failed to execute a lot tonight we never lost faith in each other. I am extremely proud of how hard we battled and at the end of the night I know each player left everything they had out on the field!,” said Coach Johanson.

On offense the Trojans relied on a heavy attack from Bailey Cameron. He had 75 yards rushing and a couple of key receptions. Quarterback Avery Thompson made the plays when they mattered most and Marco Sanchez stepped up in a big way at running back and wide receiver. The defense played great as usual, even when put in difficult situations. The Special Teams did a great job securing the ball on kick return.

“I believe this could be a turning point in the season for us. We have a few tough battles in the next 2 weeks, but I know this team is up for the challenge,” Coach Johanson.
