Congratulations to Nominees and Winners for Sportsmanship Excellence

Submitted by CHS Athletic Director, Rob Rainville

Each week, Coaches nominate Student-Athletes in their programs that excel in their sport. The Nominees are voted on by the Principals at both schools.

We would like to recognize our Student-Athletes for their efforts and we appreciate them representing the Lake Chelan School District wearing the “Chelan” uniform. Each Student-Athlete of the week winner will receive a Lake View Drive-In gift card. We want to especially thank Michael and Jamie Mack and the Lake View Drive-In for their support of Chelan Athletics and the Lake Chelan School District.

This Week’s Student Athletes:

Hannah Hawkins – Track

Hannah’s performance in the Wenatchee Middle School Track Meet was awesome. For the second week in a row she competed in 4 events and won all 4. Her Long Jump (13’5″) and 200 Meter Dash (27.75 seconds) are school records. She also won the 400 meter dash (68 seconds) and ran a leg on our winning Sprint Medley team. Great job Hannah. — Coach Griffiths

Connor Wilson- Baseball

Sophomore left hander Connor Wilson continued his masterful season last Friday, leading the Chelan Goats to their first district title in decades. With Wilson on the mound, the Goats came away with a convincing 10-6 win against the long time CTL powerhouse Cashmere Bulldogs. Wilson was especially sharp in the win, allowing only two hits through the first six innings, keeping the potent Bulldogs offense in check with an awesome array of change ups, breaking pitches, and exhibited great command of his fastball.

For Wilson, it was his 6th win of the year vs no losses. On the season, Wilson has thrown 43.1 innings, and sports a 1.93 ERA. In addition to Wilson’s pitching prowess, the speedy leadoff hitter compiled a .333 batting average for the season, and played phenomenal defense in centerfield when not leading the Goats on the mound. His performance sealed a District Championship for the Goats, first time in 20 years. — Coach Papasedero

Congratultations to Hannah and Connor and Great Job to all Nominees:

Teegan Silva – Track

In our May 3 track meet at Cashmere, Teegan Silva won the 1600 (6:10.3) and 800 (2:46.5) meter runs, breaking the school record in both, and placed 2nd in the high jump. — Coach Griffiths

Itzel Martinez – Softball

Itzel came into our program last year never playing softball. She is an extremely hard worker which has turned her into an impressive softball player. In our first week of competition we only had one catcher eligible and she caught both games without a complaint. She is very positive and is always trying to keep her teammates attitudes up. I am very proud to be her coach. — Coach Habich

Rocio Sevilla – Softball

This is the second year that Rocio has participated in the middle school softball program and for a girl that has never played softball before she has done an amazing job at learning the game. I can always count on her to step up and play whatever position I need. She is also very tough having taken a couple of hard hits resulting in bumps and bruises. She has battled back from these with no fear, which is very admirable. She is well liked by everyone on the team, and she is definitely a team player. I am proud to have her on my team and she is a great representative for Chelan Middle School Softball. -– Coach Habich

Sierra Rothlisberger/Madeline Peebles – Tennis

Junior Sierra Rothlisberger and Senior Madeline Peebles won the girls doubles championship at the CTL tournament on Saturday, May 12. Their route to the championship: a 1st round bye, a quarterfinal win over Herrera/Espinosa of Cascade 6-0, 6-2, a semifinal win over Vandel/Evans of Cascade 6-3, 6-3, and a title match win over teammates Elle Rothlisberger and Bella Gatzemeier 6-2, 6-4. This title caps off an undefeated CTL season for Sierra and Madeline as a doubles team. — Coach Rothlisberger

Corbin Morley – Golf

Corbin tied for 11th place with a 7-over par 79 on a very windy day, and helped our team to an overall 10th place finish at the Suncadia Invitational (5-1-18) against a very tough field of some of the best boys golf teams in the state, including many 4A, 3A and 2A teams. He followed that up with another 79 two days later at our own course against Quincy. — Coach Einspahr

Bert Mendivil – Track

Bert set a Personal Record in the 100 meter dash. 12.21 placed top 15th. He also set a Personal Record in the Long Jump; 19 feet 8 inches. — Coach Romero

Matea Ivory – Track

Two personal records set. 13.34 in the 100 meter dash placed her 5th overall and 3rd in the CTL. Her time of 27.09 got her 3rd overall at Royal and 2nd overall for CTL for the 200 meter dash. She also anchored our girl’s 4×100 meter relay team. She also helped us place 3rd overall as a team. — Coach Romero

Taylor Sams – Softball

It was due to her great pitching abilities that we were able to win easily against Omak at the CTL-league playoffs and she helped close the gap against Okanogan at the CTL-league playoffs as well. — Coach Slagle
