The Manson Trojan softball team traveled to Soap Lake for their final game of the season.
Monday, April 30: Manson 11, Soap Lake 23
The Trojans started the game strong and jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the back and forth match up that had the Trojans down by 1, then up by 2, then tied at 11.
In the bottom of the 5th, the Lady Eagles managed to score 12 runs to win the game.
Trojan highlights include a great defensive game for Salena Joiner at third- with several instrumental plays. Early in the game- Salena dug out a hard hit ground ball and fired it over to 1st for a momentum changing play for the Trojans- and followed it up with caught pop up fly ball, and a pair of solo plays at third.
Josephine Thompson also had a great defensive game for the Trojans- ending the game with 2 caught pop flys and two key plays at short stop.
Alexis Stotko was the Trojan pitcher- and Mara Vargas was the catcher.
Mara played a fantastic game- with minimal pass balls and kept the Eagle base runners at bay.
Offensively, the Trojans ended the day with nine walked batters, two hit by pitches and five hits.
Manson players with hits: Veronica Lulo (with 2 singles), Salena Joiner (with a double), Josephine Thompson (with a double) and Melanie Marin (with a single).
Scoring runs were Paige Schoenwald, Melanie Marin, Josephine Thompson, Mara Vargas, Veronica Lulo and Ali Adame.
Please join us on Tuesday, June 12th for the Spring Sports Awards Banquet, when we celebrate the great successes of the 2018 Manson Trojan Softball Team. More details to come.
