Detour will be removed as intersection reopens either Saturday or Sunday

Work on the US 2/97 and Easy Street roundabout in north Wenatchee is nearing completion and the intersection is scheduled to reopen as a multi lane roundabout sometime over the weekend, Saturday, July 1 or Sunday, July 2. When the roundabout opens to traffic, the detour will be removed and the northbound SR 285 ramp will reopen.
The project replaced a signalized intersection with a multi lane roundabout, extended access to the Apple Capital Loop multimodal trail and added transit pull outs.
Work will continue at that intersection after the opening of the roundabout and will require intermittent lane closures and flagging. Permanent striping work will follow in a few weeks, after asphalt and concrete have adequately cured. Striping work will require two or three overnight closures using the same detour. That work is likely to happen in late July, but dates have not yet been established.
Roundabouts are designed to make intersections safer and more efficient for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists. There are a few key things to remember about using roundabouts:
- Yield to drivers already in the roundabout (on the circulating roadway).
- Stay in your lane; like channelized intersections, drivers should choose their lane prior to entering the roundabout and not change lanes in the intersection.
- Do not stop once you’ve entered the in the roundabout.
- Avoid driving next to oversize vehicles.
Updates for the permanent striping work will be shared on the real time travel map and on Twitter at @WSDOT_East.
