Multiple agencies respond to structure fires in Orondo

Two structure fires occurred in Orondo on Friday. Orondo Fire was called out to the Twin W development along the Columbia River at 5 PM to a Structure Fire. First arriving units found a fully involved dwelling with fire through the roof. Heavy winds were blowing flames and heat to the neighboring dwelling causing the fire the blow out the window and enter the second story. Third alarm fire crews responded from throughout the Greater Wenatchee Valley contributing staffing and apparatus to the extinguishment of the fire. The fire residents at the initial dwelling escaped with only swim gear but were uninjured. There were five vehicles damaged in the fire. The initial home was a total loss and the second home suffered fire damage to part of the upper floor and roof structure.
As crews were returning to service at 11:18 PM from the first fire they were dispatched to a second structure fire two miles north of Orondo. Incoming units found a dwelling filled with smoke and heat with three injured residents in the driveway suffering from fire related injuries. Survey of the dwelling located a fire in the basement. Basement fires are very difficult and dangerous. Entry was made and fire crews able to extinguish the fire contained to furniture and contents. Second alarm brought firefighters from neighboring agencies to assist in firefighting efforts. Two of the residents were transported to Central Washington Hospital for treatment of serious injuries with one treated at the scene.
Neither of the fire locations were directly serviced by fire hydrants with water hauled by water tenders. The Twin-W fire was aiding by newly installed fire hydrants in the area.
There were no firefighters injured in the fire although the effects of the summer heat were detrimental to firefighting efforts requiring rehab time between entries into the fire.
