Water Quality Meeting Scheduled for April 19

By Dennis Rahm

Lake Chelan water quality will be the focus of discussion at a Thursday night, April 19, Town Hall meeting at 6pm at the Chelan Senior Center.

The Town Hall meeting is the second in a series that began on January 16, 2018 when Affordable Housing was discussed.

Chelan Mayor Mike Cooney says these gatherings allow the citizens of Chelan an opportunity to offer input on topics of concern outside of a more tightly structured City Council meeting. The Thursday town hall will feature representatives from several area organizations that have been focused on water quality standards and concerns.

Addressing water quality monitoring will be the Lake Chelan Research Institute, the supply of available water will be addressed by the Chelan County DNR watershed planning unit, while the Chelan County PUD will discuss water quality and control of invasive species.

Also anticipated to attend will be representatives of Friends of Lake Chelan to discuss possible impacts to the lake from development growth and City staff will address the areas of storm water, septic and sewer systems.

In a recent interview with LakeChelanNow, Mayor Cooney explains why he believes the Town Hall concept is a good idea and touches on why water quality is so important to life in Chelan.

The Thursday Town Hall meeting begins at 6pm at the Chelan Senior Center at 534 Trow Avenue.
