Washington Apples License Plate Promotes Apples and Supports WAEF
Information released by Washington Apple Education Foundation
Starting July 1st, you can brag about the “World’s Finest Apples” everywhere you drive.
Soon, Washington drivers will be able to order Washington Apples specialty plates through the Department of Licensing. The initial $77.25 fee carries an annual renewal of $30. Each sale and renewal will directly benefit the Washington Apple Education Foundation with $28 used to support scholarships and student outreach activities.
Getting a specialty plate is a process that takes time and support. The Washington Apple Commission expressed their interest in an apple tribute plate last year. Senator Brad Hawkins sponsored a bill which gained support from legislators across the state. The bill passed in early March and was signed into law by Governor Inslee on March 19th.
“We anticipate seeing thousands of Washington apples specialty plates on our highways,” said WAEF chairman Chris Willett. “The plates provide deserved recognition to growers, employees and all that have helped make Washington’s tree fruit industry world-class. They also represent dollars that will be spent providing educational resources to kids raised in the industry.”
Additional information is on the WAEF website or you can go directly to the Washington State DoL specialty license plate ordering page.
