Spring travel may be impacted by winter travel conditions

information released

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for the weekend, in effect from 5:00 p.m. Friday afternoon to 11:00 p.m. Saturday night. The impact will be felt throughout Western Chelan County, including Stevens Pass, Stehekin and Holden Village.

An extended winter storm warning was also issued for Cascade mountain passes from 5:00 p.m. Friday afternoon to 5:00 a.m. Sunday morning, including Steven’s, Blewett, and Snoqualmie Passes.

Heavy snow is expected above 2,500 feet with total accumulations between 12 and 24 inches. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph are anticipated on exposed mountain ridges.

The late season sun angle will contribute to higher accumulation efficiency for snow that falls overnight and early in the morning. Snowfall rates up to an inch per hour and falling temperatures Friday night will create winter driving conditions.

Precautionary/preparedness actions: If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency. The latest road conditions for the state you are calling from can be obtained by calling 5-1-1.
