Boat Races Return to Chelan This Weekend
by Lake Chelan Now
Lake Chelan has a long running history of hydroplane racing and the tradition continues this weekend with the running of the Annual Norm Evans Apple Cup Regatta. Evans is a former well known and long time Chelan resident who was a top driver on the unlimited hydroplane circuit back in the late 1950’s and early 60’s. His two sons, Mark and Mitch, later also raced for a number of years on the circuit.
The weekend event by the Pacific Northwest Boat Racing Association will feature racing in a number of different limited hydroplane classifications on both Saturday and Sunday. The event is staged at Don Morse Park in Chelan and is free to the public although there is a charge for access to the race pits.
