Volunteers from Chelan and Manson will join thousands nationwide in with a Voter Registration Drive on Sept. 25 as part of National Voter Registration Day. The volunteers will be set up at four busy locations to help local residents register to vote and make their voices heard at the ballot box.
National Voter Registration Day was declared in 2012 as a non-partisan, nationwide, one-day effort to register voters and make sure no one misses the opportunity to vote. This year’s goal is to increase voter participation in the 2018 mid-term elections throughout Chelan and Manson.
“While national elections get most of the media attention and larger voter turnout, local elections in many ways have a more direct impact on people’s day to day lives.” said Carol Cotten, volunteer and voter registration drive coordinator. “Elections matter and our right to vote matters. We want everyone in our community to have the opportunity to use their voice and vote.”
Volunteers will staff voter registration tables throughout the day at four commonly frequented areas to more easily reach Chelan and Manson residents.
Locations and Times Include:
- Manson Red Apple from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
- Chelan IGA Market from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
- The Vogue from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
- Chelan Food Bank from 8:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
Posters, stickers and other promotional materials have been placed at area businesses as well as government buildings, schools, libraries, recreation centers and churches to let people know where they can go to register on Sept. 25.
Chelan and Manson are among more than 3,000 partners across the US that have come together in civic unity to support National Voter Registration Day and get communities engaged in our nation’s democracy.
