The response was fast and furious as multiple agencies responded to a series of small fires near Union Valley Road north of Chelan on Tuesday afternoon. In addition to crews on the ground, air resources were a key resource in helping to contain the spread of the fire. The fire, now estimated at about 25 acres, was burning in brush and timber.
The fire, now estimated at about 25 acres, was burning in brush and timber. Various levels of evacuation had been ordered in the area, but with containment close as of Wednesday afternoon those notices have been lowered or lifted completely.
The Department of Natural Resources reported Wednesday that a few hand crews and engine crews remain on scene to monitor and secure hot spots. Fortunately, no homes were lost and only a couple of out-buildings were burned.
The Union Valley Fire is under a unified command of DNR, Chelan Fire and Rescue, the U.S. Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management. Officials caution that fire season is still with us and to be aware of fire restrictions. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
