Lane Shift and Reduced Speed on SR 20 at Washington Pass Starting May 9
information released, WSDOT file photo
Avalanche control and maintenance crews are monitoring conditions across Washington and Rainy passes. Starting Thursday, May 9, travelers will encounter an eastbound lane closure near the summit of Washington Pass (milepost 162-162), to shift traffic away from the mountain slope. Eastbound traffic is moved to the westbound passing lane. The eastbound lane closure and lane shift will be in place until Monday, May 13 at noon.
Warmer weather in the North Cascades means increased potential for debris and snow slides in the mountain passes this weekend. An advisory speed of 35 m.p.h. will be posted through the duration of the lane closure.
Crews will continue to monitor conditions throughout the weekend. Updates will be shared on the SR 20 North Cascades mountain pass page and the real time travel map.
