State Championship Recap: Manson vs Adna

Manson Trojans Win Second State Title in 2B Volleyball Tournament!

The Trojans will be returning home with the state title for the second year in a row after winning the championship match last night (Nov. 14) in the SunDome in Yakima! Manson avenged an earlier season defeat to Adna, and cruised to a decisive 3-0 win over the Pirates to capture the State 2B Volleyball Championship.

Strobe lights, confetti cannons and loud music were all part of the pre-championship proceedings. The Trojans used their talent and depth to dominate an Adna team that had been previously undefeated and ranked number one entering the tournament. Manson swept the three sets by scores of 25-20, 26-24, and 25-7. Senior Stella Petersen led the way with 23 kills, while senior Genesis Torres recorded a team high 20 digs. Junior Phinley Teague led the Trojans with 34 assists and also contributed 18 digs. Listen below to the live broadcast recording with Dennis Rahm and Desiree Phelps.
Head Coach Hayli Thompson said she was proud of the way her players performed and the poise they exhibited. The back-to-back championship run brings to a close the Trojan high school volleyball careers of five graduating seniors: Stella Petersen, Genesis Torres, Camille Hutton, Brynn Williams, and Mallory Shumway.
In their run to the championship Manson lost only one set the entire tourney and posted wins over Warden, River View, Freeman, and Adna. Congratulations and Go Trojans!

Match 3 Recap: Manson vs Freeman

The Trojans Win a Hard-Fought Victory Over the Scotties

It was a tight match between the Manson Trojans and the Freeman Scotties in the semi-final round of the State 2B Volleyball Tournament this morning. The 3-1 victory will send the Trojans to the State Championship match to try to defend their title and take home a second consecutive championship.
Manson won the opening set 25-19, only to see the tall and talented Scotties bounce back to take the second set 25-20. Manson had to battle from behind in winning the third and fourth sets by identical scores of 25-23. Stella Petersen dominated at the net with 29 kills while Genesis Torres had 36 digs, and Phinley Teague had 47 assists while also slapping the ball back to the Scottie’s side for the winning point of the third set! The Trojans showed tremendous resilience throughout the match and leaned on their experience in big matches to secure the win. The Sportsmanship Medallion was awarded to the team’s ball girl Marlie Thompson! Listen back to the broadcast of the semi-final match below!
Manson will face top-seeded Adna for the State Championship at 5:30pm. The two teams played earlier this season and Adna prevailed in a close match 3-2. Join us for the live broadcast at www.lakechelannow.com/live.

Match 2 Recap: Manson vs River View

The Trojans Defeat the Panthers in the Quarter-Finals to Advance to Semi-final Match

The Manson Trojans had their second sweep of the tournament, beating River View 3-0 Wednesday night at the State 2B Volleyball Tournament. The Trojans won by scores of 25-12, 25-14, and 25-14.

Senior Stella Peterson delivered several powerful hits to the Panthers’ side of the net. Freshman Abby Williams came into the match and made a run of nearly-impossible-to-return serves. It came as little surprise to see senior Brynn Williams be awarded the Sportsmanship Medallion for the Trojans — she was excitedly celebrating her teammates both on the court and from the sideline.

The Trojans will now play Freeman at 10am Thursday (Nov. 14) at the SunDome in Yakima. Tune in to the live broadcast at www.lakechelannow.com/live.

This marks the fourth consecutive year that Manson will make an appearance in the final four. Freeman advanced to the semi-final match with a 3-0 win over Rainier last night. The other semi-final match will also play out at 10 am, and will feature #1 seed Adna facing Coupeville.

The winners of the semi-final matches will play for the 2024 State Championship at 5:30 this evening, while the losers will meet in the 3rd/4th place match at 2pm. A Manson win against Freeman will give the Trojans an opportunity to defend their first ever Championship captured last season.

Match 1 Recap: Manson vs Warden

The Trojans Sweep the Cougars in the Opening Match of Tournament Play

The Manson Trojans had a successful start to this year’s State 2B Volleyball Tournament this morning in the Yakima SunDome. Entering the tourney with the number two overall seed, Manson made quick work of dispatching Warden 3-0, winning by scores of 25-7, 25-19, and 25-16.

It was a complete team win with Manson excelling in all facets of the match. Setter Phinley Teague (junior) connected with senior Camille Hutton several times for big hits against the Cougars, and libero Genesis Torres seemed to be diving all over the court to dig the ball out. Freshman Aaliyah Torres was awarded the Sportsmanship Medallion for the Trojans at the conclusion of the match. Listen back to a recording of the live broadcast below for all of the match highlights!

Coach Hayli Thompson will lead her team into the quarter-finals this evening (Nov. 13) at 7:15 pm against the #7 seed River View after the Panthers defeated the Forks Spartans 3-0 earlier today. The Trojans beat the Panthers 3-0 just last week in the District playoffs. Tune in to the live broadcast at www.lakechelannow.com/live.

The winner of tonight’s match will advance to the semi-finals at 10 am on Thursday (Nov. 14), playing the winner of tonight’s match between Freeman and Rainier. The losers of these two quarter-final matches will meet in the consolation round at 8 am Thursday.
