Waterpark planning for normal 2021 season

Last week, the Washington State Department of Health agreed to a settlement, negotiated by the Freedom Foundation, under which it would drop its original order, which carried with it the threat of hefty fines and revocation of the popular water park’s water recreation operating permits. In return, Slidewaters agreed to drop its appeal of that order.

The Freedom Foundation said in a statement that the settlement represents a victory for their organization and the park’s owners, but one that didn’t come in time to save Slidewaters’ 2020 summer season. Slidewaters Co-owner Robert Bordner said, “this puts things behind us and allows us to move forward by keeping permits intact for next year”.

In addition to the settlement reached with the Department of Health, Slidewaters also has ongoing appeals before the Washington State Board of Industrial Insurance Appeals and the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.

As it stands now, Slidewaters is planning for a normal 2021 season that would see the waterpark opening on Memorial Day weekend. The park’s new Lakeside Surf attraction is scheduled for an April opening.
