LakeChelanNow will livestream Annual Memorial Day parade Thursday

There will be a return this year of the always popular Memorial Day Parade in downtown Chelan. The Thursday evening parade will be the start of three separate Memorial Day observances in the Lake Chelan Valley.
Brian Thompson, spokesman for Lake Chelan VFW Post 6853, said all permits to hold the parade are in hand and the event will be sponsored by the Lake Chelan Lions Club. The parade starts at 7 pm with music by the Patriotic Singers beginning at 6:45 pm. The parade begins on Woodin Avenue in front of Tin Lilly Restaurant while the singers will be located at the corner of Woodin and Emerson. In addition to the VFW, parade participants will include the U.S. Forest Service with Smokey Bear, local fire departments and EMS, Border Patrol, classic cars, and Miss Lake Chelan. Special Thanks to the Lake Chelan Lions Club who will hang the flags lining the parade route on Thursday morning.

Friday get your Memorial Day Poppies:
VFW Members will be distributing Poppies on Friday 9 a.m. – noon at Chelan Safeway, the Chelan Post Office, and Red Apple Market in Manson. Get your Memorial Day Poppy and wear it proudly throughout the weekend. Flags will be on display at local Cemeteries on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
Monday at Riverwalk Park in Chelan:
The public is also invited to the annual Memorial Day observance that will be held Monday, May 31 starting at 10 am at the flagpole in Riverwalk Park.
Monday at American Legion Park in Manson:
The Manson American Legion, Post 108 will hold a very special Memorial Day celebration this year as they honor not only all those that have given the ultimate sacrifice for their country, but will also pay tribute to the men and women that served our country during the Vietnam Era.
The celebration begins at 11:00 on Monday – May 31 at the American Legion Park, across from the Manson Business Center in downtown Manson. Colors will be presented and Taps played by students from Manson High School. Members of Post 108 will make patriotic speeches prior to introduction of a special guest speaker.
Post 108 Commander, Clyde McCullough says, “I’m pleased to announce that Congresswoman Kim Schrier will be our guest speaker.” Doctor Schrier represents Washington’s 8th Congressional District, which includes much of King, Pierce, Kittitas, and Chelan Counties, and portions of Douglas County.
After her speech Congresswoman Schrier will hand out a Vietnam Veteran Lapel Pin to all veterans in attendance that served our country during the Vietnam Era as a lasting memento of the Nation’s thanks.
Living U.S. veterans who served on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces at any time during the period of November 1, 1955 to May 15, 1975, regardless of location, are eligible to receive a lapel pin.
