Echo Valley is waiting for more snow
by Dennis Rahm
Local snow ski, snowboarders and tubing enthusiasts will have to wait a bit longer for this winter’s official opening of Echo Valley Ski Hill. The family friendly ski hill has been in operation for more than 60 years, but still needs a bit more snow before this year’s operations can begin. The facility had been scheduled to open this Thursday just in time for the school Holiday break, but the situation will be monitored daily and will open ass soon as Mother Nature provides enough snow.
Echo Valley sits at a base elevation of 3000 feet with a peak of 3900 feet. Facilities include three rope tows, a poma lift and a popular four-lane tubing hill. It is a volunteer, non-profit resort that also features a lodge, rental equipment at Lakeland Ski Shop and lessons if desired. Individual and family memberships are available in addition to daily passes.
Club President Lucas Green is hopeful they will be able to open the ski hill in the next few days. Once open, the facility will operate on a daily basis through January 6th with the exception of Christmas Day. After January 6th, Echo Valley will be open on weekends and holidays through President’s Day weekend. One of the highlights will be this years family friendly New Year’s Eve event featuring a bonfire, s’mores and the annual torchlight parade down the ski slope.
For more information on the operation and to keep updated on when the ski hill will open, you can visit them online at echovalley.org.
