Wind a factor in brush fire

by Dennis Rahm

The Entiat Fire District received a report just before 6 pm Saturday evening about a quick burning brush fire along Highway 97-A on the south side of the tunnel. Units from Chelan Fire and Rescue, Chelan District 1 and Manson District 5 joined Entiat firefighters in securing the area and putting out the fire.

Entiat Captain Adam Jones said the fire was contained by about 8:30 pm Saturday. The fire caused both directions of Highway 97-A to be closed for about two hours. The Chelan County PUD also reported a power outage of approximately 30-minutes that affected some 300 customers in the Stayman Flats, Navarre Coulee and Knapps Coulee areas.

Captain Jones said the fire appears to have been caused by wind pushing and fanning fire from a nearby orchard burn pile into the brush.
