Masts and colorful sails will dot the lake today and tomorrow during the annual Lake Chelan Sailing Regatta.

From its beginning in the 1960’s, the regatta has celebrated sleek boats and savvy sailors who navigate the course with whatever winds are thrown at them. Or in some years, not thrown at them.

Produced by the Lake Chelan Sailing Association, the regatta attracts a variety of classes of boats and sailors from novice up. Sailing Instructor, Russ Jones encourages any sailor to participate, indicating the emphasis is on fun. “Our event is much more relaxed that who you might experience elsewhere,” Jones stated, referring to the regatta as “a weekend of sailing fun in a well organized yet friendly competition.”

Races begin at 10:00 a.m. and last until about 3:00 p.m. The boats are visible from many vantage points around the lower end of the Lake, with prime viewing at Don Morse Park.
