Work will start Monday, March 2, on long-planned improvements for the boat launch at Chelan PUD’s Old Mill Park near Manson. The work will increase safety and extend useful life for key components, said Project Manager Court Hill.
“The project is focused on keeping this popular boat launch ready to serve residents and visitors to Lake Chelan for many more years to come,” Hill said. “Doing the work now will provide the long-term benefits sooner.”
The project includes:
- Installing “sleeves” on float pilings to reduce wear and extend life of the pile
- Upgrading connectors for the steel pipe sections of the wave break
- Installing new docks with safety upgrades that are ADA compliant including safer tread
Plans call for keeping at least one lane of the launch open during much of the work. There may be a few times when boaters are delayed putting in or coming off the lake to keep them and workers safe, Hill said.
Contractor KRCI of East Wenatchee will do the work under a $684,830 contract. Plans call for finishing the job by May 22, so the upgraded launch is ready to use on Memorial Day weekend
Signs alerting boaters to the work are going up this week.
