Scholarship Committee members staged an informal photo opp and car parade through several Chelan and Manson neighborhoods to celebrate the Shine on Scholarship and Chelan Rotary Scholarship recipients.

Shine on Scholarships totaled $36,000 this year. The recipients were Dayra Areaga – 4 years/$4,000/year; Teresa Esquibel – 2 years/$2,000/year; Timothy Cochran – 2 years/$2,000/year; and Nadia Verduzcom Farias – 2 years/$2,000/year. These students were all from Manson High School

Haylee Fry – 2 years/$2,000/year and Charla Goodman – 1 year/$4,000 from Chelan High School.

Chelan Rotary handed out $15,000 with each scholarship worth $2,500. This year’s recipient were:

Melinia Wycoff – Chelan technical; Molly Oswald and Ashlynn Sanderson – Chelan Academic; Blake Cochran – Manson Technical; and Jose Vazquez-Guiterrez and Connor Torgeson – Manson Academic.

Included with the Rotarian group was Austrian Exchange Student Magda Deschberger, who will be returning to her home country later this summer.

Since there has been no fundraising to date for the 2020/2021 school year, Shine on Chelan and the Rotary Club are concerned about how much they  will be able to offer students next year.

LCN Editors Note: Thank you to Richard Uhlhorn for sharing the information and photo. Congratulations to the award recipients!
