Enjoy the Planet Walk at Riverwalk Park

by Dennis Rahm

A stroll along Chelan’s Riverwalk Park just got a bit more interesting with the recent completion of the Planet Walk. A project of the Lake Chelan Rotary Club, the Planet Walk is a one and a half-mile long scale model of the Solar System that features the sun, all planets, and the dwarf planets of Ceres and Pluto. Each sign along the route provides descriptive information, while a QR scan code provides even more detail.

The project has been a long-time dream of Chelan resident and Rotarian Russ Jones who is pleased by the positive reaction.

The Planet Walk is located on the south side of Riverwalk Park and the best place to begin is near the park entry off the old bridge across from the Grandview. The walk will extend through the south side of Riverwalk Park and end on the Reach trail with Pluto as the final stop.

It cost approximately $14-thousand dollars to construct the project with funding provided by the local Rotary Club and the Rotary District. Rotarians also provided the volunteer labor to install the stations.  Jones also points out the project couldn’t have been completed without the cooperation of the Chelan County PUD.
