Remote control hydroplane races are this weekend on the Chelan River

R/C Unlimiteds, the worlds largest scale radio controlled hydroplane club, will hold their final event of the race season this Saturday and Sunday at Riverwalk Park in Chelan.

The Roger Newton Memorial Gold Cup and the Norm Evans Memorial trophy will feature 40 to 50 models of historical unlimited hydros with drivers coming from throughout Washington, Oregon and Idaho.

This years event will showcase four separate classes chasing after trophies including 1/10 scale Electrics, 1/8 scale Gas and 1/8 scale Nitro powered boats. The course will be set on Friday at Riverwalk Park and their may be some testing that day. Racing on Saturday will start at 11:00 a.m. and finish at 4:00 p.m. while on Sunday the boats will battle for their respective championships beginning at 11:00 a.m. with the finals scheduled for around 3:00 p.m.. The event can easily be viewed from both sides of the river and is free to the public.

Those boating the Chelan River this weekend are asked to please navigate the course area carefully. If you plan to launch your boat at Riverwalk Park during the races, please listen to the public address announcer to indicate when it is safe to pass the course.
