Minor detours planned on Apple Capital Loop Trail in early August

information released

There’s lots of activity in Chelan PUD parks this summer. A series of improvements along the Apple Capital Loop Trail have started between the railway area, north of Pybus Market, and Ninth Street. It’s all part of the PUD’s commitment to enhancing the quality of life in the community.

The work is being planned to minimize trail impacts and keep visitors safe in the parks. The PUD will periodically detour the Loop Trail when needed.

If you’re visiting the Loop Trail, here are some of the key improvements you may see in stages of construction (work dates noted) over the next year:

  • New Fifth St. pavilion: July – Sept. 2024
  • New Fifth St. splash pad: Aug. 2024 – May 2025
  • Trail improvements north/south of Fifth St.: Sept. – Oct. 2024
  • Train Depot trail improvements: June 2024 – Oct. 2024
  • New Train Depot bathroom: July 2024 – Sept. 2024
  • New Train Depot playground: Dec. 2024 – May 2025

Temporary Trail Detour in Early August

Starting Monday, Aug. 5, until Wednesday, Aug. 7, the PUD will detour the Loop Trail just north of the boat launch parking lot near Pybus Market. Traffic using the pedestrian bridge will also follow the detour. The trail will be detoured using the city sidewalk to the west along Worthen Street and Riverside Drive, north to the Fifth Street roundabout where it will rejoin the existing trail. Cyclists are asked to use the east side of the street and pedestrians should walk along the sidewalk. Signage will direct trail users to the designated areas. Please remember to use caution around road traffic.

Chelan PUD knows its park system is highly treasured by visitors, and it appreciates trail users’ patience as these improvements are made for the community.
