The pollinator garden at Lakeshore Marina in Chelan has reached full bloom!

The joint project between the Rotary Club of Lake Chelan and the City of Chelan Parks & Recreation Department began in March of this year with a community event to spread wildflower seeds. This was followed by the installation of a permanent irrigation system utilizing materials supplied by the City and labor provided by Rotary.

However, it wasn’t until late summer that the wildflowers really showed their stuff. The pollinators seem pleased.

Special thanks to Paul Horne, Park & Recreation Director and fellow Rotarian, for coordinating the effort, and to Rotarian Brian Patterson for his considerable efforts in leading installation of the irrigation project.

The Pollinator Highway project was initiated last year by past Rotary District Governor Karl Ruether, who challenged each club in District 5060 to create a pollinator garden in their own community. The idea is to create a mappable pollinator garden highway spanning the district from British Columbia to southern Washington state inclusive of all clubs.
