Entiat, WA (May 14, 2021) – In the lower Entiat Valley, just west of the community of Entiat, Forest Service land managers are evaluating forest and aquatic health in the the Lower Mad, Roaring Creek, and Mills Creek-Entiat River watersheds as part of the Mad Roaring Mills Landscape Restoration Project. The 65,000 acre project will take a holistic look at current conditions and seeks to improve overall watershed heath by integrating terrestrial and aquatic restoration.
“We are in the early stages of evaluating how to restore this landscape, improve aquatic habitat, and better protect our communities from catastrophic wildfire,” said Entiat and Chelan District Ranger Kari Grover-Wier. “I invite you to join the conversation during these early stages, so you know what’s being considered, what’s not, and how to lend your voice to the development of this project.”
Key project information:
- The primary focus of the project is to create healthy forest ecosystems, reduce uncharacteristic wildfire risk, and improve watershed conditions on a landscape scale.
- Restoration would include both terrestrial and aquatic work such as prescribed fire, non-commercial thinning, aquatic restoration, road system work and more.
- A transportation analysis has been completed for the project area that proposes putting some roads into long-term storage and decommissioning, especially in locations where there are redundant roads accessing the same area.
