Picture This is an art appreciation program for the third grade students of Manson and Morgan Owings Elementary schools presented by the Lake Chelan Arts Council.

Our mission is to introduce and instill interest in Art at an early age. With Art funding drying up, it is important for people who are passionate about art to take the reins on Art education.

We change artists every month. Then once a month volunteers present biographies on a chosen artist and discuss their artistic work in the classroom. Students view a print of the artist’s work and are led in a project suited to the month’s presentation.

The original program, Picture Lady from the 70’s, was developed by the Chicago Museum of Art. This program, which serves as the model we are generally following, is aimed at presenting the art appreciation classes to third graders. It was felt that children of this age were very receptive to the concepts and information offered.

The program operates on a strictly volunteer basis and the Lake Chelan Arts Council is actively recruiting volunteers. You don’t have to be an artist or even know anything about art to participate

One child, one light, one life changed forever. That’s the power of enrichment programs like Picture This.
