Planning to Visit Any Parks this Year? Get Your Parking Passes in Advance
Compiled by Loni Rahm
Don’t let parking regulations ruin your outdoor plans this year. Between the City of Chelan, Washington State Parks, and Chelan County PUD parking pass options, you can easily (and inexpensively) enjoy a day at your favorite local waterfront playgrounds throughout the year.
PUD offers a FREE day use parking pass to 3 State Parks
The 2018 PUD day use parking pass is available FREE to Chelan PUD residential electric customers and residents. Part of the Public Power Benefits program, your annual PUD parking pass allows you day use parking at the three regional parks which are owned by the PUD and managed by the State Parks Department: Daroga, Lincoln Rock and Wenatchee Confluence State Parks.
Although there’s a limit of one pass per family, you can register up to 4 vehicles per pass. Just make sure the license plate number is listed and the pass is clearly visible in the corresponding parked vehicle.
Applying online is easy…I recently applied for mine and received the pass in the mail within three days. You will need your utility account number – which is listed on each of your bills – and your physical as well as a mailing address. You can also apply in person at the Chelan PUD office during regular business hours. Links to PUD application forms are included below for your convenience or you can contact the PUD at (509) 663-8121.
How to apply for the PUD pass
- Apply online OR
- Download, complete and mail /drop off your form at any PUD office (Wenatchee, Chelan or Leavenworth). If you bring your application to one of the PUD offices, you will receive your pass the same day. If you mail your application, you should receive your pass within 2-3 business days after the PUD receives the application.
Washington State Parks – Discover Pass
Washington State Parks requires a Discover Pass for parking access to any of the parks and trails in their system.
If you plan to visit one or more Washington State Park at least 3 times over the course of a year, consider purchasing an annual pass for $30. It’s good for unlimited park access for one year from the date of purchase. You can also buy a one-day pass for $10; which is good only for the date marked on the pass.
Your Discover Pass provides access to millions of acres of state recreation lands in Washington, including:
- More than 100 developed state parks
- More than 350 primitive recreation sites, including campgrounds and picnic areas
- Nearly 700 water-access points
- Nearly 2,000 miles of designated water and land recreation trails
- More than 80 natural areas
- More than 30 wildlife areas

You don’t need the PUD pass if you have a Discover Pass
If you already have an annual State Parks’ Discover Pass, you don’t need the additional PUD pass in order to access day use parking at Daroga, Lincoln Rock or Confluence State Parks. But if you don’t have a Discover Pass, and your upcoming travel plans include a stop at one of these beautiful parks along the Columbia River, you’ll want to request the free PUD pass.
