Representatives from Multiple Agencies Assisted in the Rescue

Information and photos released by Chelan Fire & Rescue

Over the weekend, Chelan Fire and Rescue, Chelan EMS, Chelan County Sheriff’s Office, and Life Flight worked together Saturday to rescue a 43-year old paraglider who crashed on the east side of Chelan Butte. The Chelan County resident was an experienced paraglider who reportedly got caught in variable winds after taking off.

Crews hiked approximately 1 mile with 1000 ft of elevation change to reach the patient. Life Flight was able to land on a semi flat spot approximately 200 yards uphill from the patient who was packaged in a stokes basket and carried up by rescue crews. The patient was flown to Central Washington Hospital where she was treated and released.

While it took rescuers some time to get on the scene, Chelan County Sheriff’s Deputy Mike Morrison praised members of the victim’s group, saying “they did a great job tending to her, assessing her injuries, and making sure she was prepped to be moved”.
