Fire restrictions in Chelan County’s unincorporated areas expire
information released
On Oct. 1, fire restrictions in Chelan County’s unincorporated areas expired, ending travel and activity restrictions and allowing people to burn yard waste in small piles outside local urban growth areas.
The Chelan County Fire Marshal’s Office cautions that the wildfire danger has not gone away. Much of the county has not yet received a significant amount of rain to combat the dry conditions that continue. Fire hazard ratings throughout the county continue to be at “high,” and a wildfire extinguished over the weekend reportedly was started from someone burning yard debris.
If you do have plans to burn yard waste, keep the pile small and have a means to extinguish the fire readily available. Never leave a fire unattended, or burn under windy conditions.
