Gusty Winds in NCW, Winter Storm Warning in Effect Friday & Saturday in Mountain Passes

The National Weather Service is calling for gusty winds in the eastern shadow of the Cascade Mountains. Southwest winds 15-30 mps with gusts up to 45 mph are expected from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Saturday in the Lake Chelan Valley as well as Moses, Lake, Ephrata, Othello, Cashmere, Wenatchee, Quincy and Entiat.

  • Impacts: gusty winds could dislodge unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.
  • Travel alert: Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution.

There is also a winter storm warning in effect from 10:00 p.m. Friday evening through 10:00 p.m. Saturday. Heavy snow is expected, with most accumulations above 4500 ft elevation.

Total snow accumulations between 10 and 25 inches.

Washington Pass will see between 18 and 24 inches of show.

Stevens Pass will see much less snow with the current forecast calling for 1 to 4 inches of snow.

Wind gusts as high as 45 mph may impact visibility.

  • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult. Roads above 4500 feet will become snow covered and hazardous. Visibilities may drop due to falling and blowing snow.
