The Chelan Saddle Club lost a dear friend this week. Donald McClellan (or Donnie as many of his friends knew him) passed away on Friday April 24 surrounded by his family. He was 86 years old.

Donnie was a genuine cowboy. He loved horses for as long as his family can remember. He spent a lot of his early years on the trails around Manson and Chelan with many a Saddle Club member and continued this passion throughout most of his life. He was an advocate for the Jr. Rodeo encouraging his children and others to get involved because he believed it taught them more more than riding, roping, barrel racing and wrestling steers.

This appreciation is carried on by his children, particularly his son Russ who along with Ottie Holcomb, keep their horses at the Chelan Saddle Club. Until most recently, Donnie would get his horse fix by visiting Russ’s horse, Big Red, and taking her out for walks or even a short ride. She loved the time they spent together..

Because of his support and dedication to the Chelan Jr. Rodeo, the family has asked those who want to honor and celebrate Donnie’s life to consider making a donation to the Chelan Jr. Rodeo. All proceeds go directly to supporting the competitors and cost of holding this annual event.

Donations can be made at PayPal.me/chelansaddleclub or by check made out to Chelan Rustlers Saddle Club and mailed to P.O. Box 1424, Chelan WA 98816.

Please note on the check and when donating via PayPal that the funds are for the Donald McClellan Memorial to benefit the Chelan Jr. Rodeo.

We feel privileged and honored to help carry on Donnie’s legacy and continue this long standing tradition that meant so much to him. We thank the McClellan family for including the Chelan Jr. Rodeo in their remembrance of Donnie and the extraordinary life he lived.
