Congratulations to Trojan Tennis Athletes!
Manson’s Reyna, Torres, Koth, and Richmond qualify for Girls State and League Finals — Manson’s Willard, Fretwell, and Rasmusson qualify for Boys League Semifinals
It was a great day for Manson tennis! Starting at 8:30 a.m. and ending at 6:00 p.m, Manson tennis took the courts for Day 1 of Leagues at Harmony Meadows.
On the girls side, Natalee Reyna and Genna Torres made easy work of their competition, punching their tickets to both League Finals and States. With a number one seed, Reyna and Torres had an early round bye, but cruised through both the quarterfinals and semifinals in quick 2 set matches.
Addie Richmond and Kayden Koth, the #2 seeded doubles team, won both of their matches, meaning Addie and Kayden will both be heading to State as well! In their quarterfinal match, they pulled off a three set win against a talented Okanogan team. In their semifinal match, they faced the number #3 seeded Tonasket team, winning in two hard fought sets.
With both Manson doubles teams winning their semifinal matches, this means the finals for Leagues will be Manson verses Manson for the Doubles Championship.
On the girls singles side, Karly Naranjo and Olivia Smith won their first matches and punched their tickets to the quarterfinals. Both athletes lost their next matches in the third set (Karly 5-7 and Olivia in a tiebreaker). Despite these close losses and lengthy matches, both Olivia and Karly came back to win their next matches. As a result, they get to play next Wednesday. With two wins, both Karly and Olivia have the ability to finish as high as third or fourth. This also keeps them alive for State Qualification.
As expected, number 2 seed Cavan Willard cruised through all of his victories as Manson’s top singles player, and he earned himself a spot at semifinals on Saturday. His consistency was just too good to top. At the #1 doubles seed, Manson’s duo of Ashton Fretwell and Ben Rasmusson made easy work of their opponents, earning their spot at the semifinals on Saturday as well.
On the boys side, Sota Watanabe faced the 4th seeded singles player from Liberty Bell. With just 2.5 months of tennis experience, Sota was outmatched and fell to the impressive Liberty Bell athlete. Jacob and Oashan (seeded 11th) upset the #6 seed to make it to Quarterfinals. Although they lost the next match, they continue their play this Saturday to determine their ultimate ranking. Their impressive victory earned the Trojans valuable points for the team title which will be determined on Saturday at Lake Roosevelt.
The winner of the League Championship Tournament is yet to be determined, but Manson is positioned to earn the top spot. The boys continue the tournament this Saturday at 10am at Lake Roosevelt. The girls will continue their run on Wednesday, May 15th at Lake Roosevelt at 10am.
A special shout out to Natalee Reyna, Genna Torres, Kayden Koth, and Addie Richmond for qualifying for State today! It was a great day to be a Trojan. Congrats to everyone!!
