After 707 days of preparation since their last baseball game in 2019, The Trojans welcomed Waterville to beautiful Singleton Park on Saturday for opening day of baseball for the 2021 season. The baseball field was picturesque with plenty of sunshine, cut grass and the sparkle of Lake Chelan in the background behind home plate.

Game 1: Manson 25 Waterville 13

The Trojans sent south paw junior Alex Solorio to the hill and junior Conner Clausen managed the dish. Solorio pitched 4 innings giving up 5 runs on 3 hits, striking out 9 and walking 2 using up 92 pitches.

Pitching in relief was freshman Carter Lyman who pitched 1 inning, giving up 7 runs while navigating several defensive flaws and only allowing 2 hits, striking out 1 and walking 4 using 41 pitches. The defense played well enough to win, but looked a bit rusty committing 5 errors.

Offensively the Trojans exploded scoring 25 runs on 14 hits. Rookie 8th grader William Hutchinson had the hot bat going 3 for 5 with a double and 5 RBI’s. Senior Cody Fitzpatrick went 1 for 3 with 4 RBI’s and belted a moon shot home run over the left field fence in the first inning to set the offensive tone for the day. Senior Malichi Sanchez had two hits and roamed center field. Freshman Carter Lyman added 4 RBI’s on the game, and the designated hitter and Rookie 8th grader, Oscar Valdez chipped in his first career hit as a Trojan.
