State Championship Recap: Manson vs Lind-Ritzville-Sprague (3-0 Manson)

Manson Trojans: “We are the Champions!”

Thursday proved to be a historic night for Manson Volleyball as they not only captured their first ever state volleyball championship, but in the process claimed the schools first ever state title in any sport. Manson cruised to a 3-0 win over Lind-Ritzville-Sprague in the championship match winning by scores of 25-15, 25-15, and 25-21.

On their way to the state 2B title, Manson posted tourney wins over Kalama, Okanogan, Colfax, and Lind-Ritzville-Sprague. The Trojans will return a strong team next year as they lose only two seniors in Natalee Reyna and Teagan Byquist.

Manson Coach Hayli Thompson was all smiles in the post game celebration and said she was so proud of how the team performed. Several of the players commented that this was the goal they had worked so hard to accomplish.

It was a tremendous accomplishment and a true team effort. Junior Stella Petersen was the tournaments dominant hitter and junior libero Genesis Torres was a defensive stalwart. The State Championship finishes a perfect season for Manson as they end the year unbeaten at 24-0.

Match 3 Recap: Manson vs Colfax (3-1 Manson)

The Trojans are Heading to the Championship Match!

After a slow start in the opening set of their final-four contest against Colfax, the Manson Trojans bounced back with outstanding play to defeat the Bulldogs and earn an opportunity to play for a state title Thursday evening. Manson will be seeking their first state volleyball championship in school history.

Manson lost the opening set to Colfax 19-25 after coming up against some imposing blockers on the Bulldogs’ side of the net. The team made some quick adjustments to their attack, however, which allowed the Trojans to reel off three straight wins by scores of 25-16, 25-15, and 25-11.

On the other side of the Dome, Lind-Ritzville-Sprague defeated Rainier 3-0 in the their semi-final matchup to set up a showdown with Manson. The Trojans will take on Broncos in the WIAA 2B State Tournament tonight at 5:30 pm in Yakima. The live broadcast will start about 5:15 p.m.

Match 2 Recap: Manson vs Okanogan (3-1 Manson)

A Hard-Fought Win Puts Manson in the Final Four

The Trojans defeated Okanogan 3-1 on Wednesday night to keep their championship hopes alive. Manson battled 25-18 in set 1, 25 – 18 in set 2, lost the third set 22-25, and closed out the match with a 25-15 win in set 4. Manson will face Colfax Thursday morning at 10 am in the semi-finals of the WIAA 2-B Volleyball tournament in Yakima.

The Okanogan match was the fourth meeting of the year between the two teams and Manson has now won all of the matchups — none bigger than last night with so much at stake. It was a hard-fought affair that saw Manson overcome an injury to Junior Middle Blocker Camille Hutton. The Trojans wobbled for a bit, but adjusted to a new lineup and finished the match strong. The team hopes that Hutton will be able to play on Thursday.

The other semi-final match will pit Lind Ritzville-Sprague against upstart Rainier. Rainier is the number nine seed and upset number one Adna 3-2. The winners of the two semi-finals will play for the state championship at 5:30 pm today while the losers will play for third and fourth place at state at 2 pm.

Manson’s crowd did not disappoint yesterday, with a raucous student cheering section and families, teachers and community members filling the stands! Go Trojans!

Match 1 Recap: Manson vs Kalama (3-0 Manson)

Manson Dominates In First Match At State Volleyball

The Manson Trojans coasted by Kalama in a first-round sweep Wednesday morning at the 2B State Volleyball Tournament in Yakima. Manson won by scores of 25-12, 25-10, and 25-7. The Trojans have high hopes this year of improving on their third place state finishes the past two seasons.

The win sends Manson into a quarter-final match against familiar opponent Okanogan at 7:15 pm today (November 8). The Bulldogs advanced with a 3-1 win over Napavine this morning. Manson has played and defeated Okanogan three times this season and all were 3-0 sweeps, with the last matchup played October 31.

Another win versus Okanogan would put the Trojans into the semi-finals on Thursday at 10 am against the winner of the Colfax vs. Toutle Lake match. A Trojan loss to the Bulldogs would put them into an 8 am Thursday loser bracket game.

Manson is the number two seeded team in this year’s tourney, and with the Kalama win their season record has improved to 21-0. Tonight’s match against Okanogan will be broadcast live on LakeChelanNow starting at 7:10 pm with Dennis Rahm and Desiree Phelps.
