Alexis Villaseñor receives full scholarship to prestigious school
by Loni Rahm
Congratulations to Manson High School senior, Alexis Villaseñor. One of 61 graduating seniors this spring. Alexis was recently accepted with a full scholarship to Johns Hopkins University.
Alexis wants to study neurosurgery and dreamed of attending one of the country’s foremost universities. With help from his MHS advisor, Alexis applied to several schools, including a few Ivy League schools.
After reviewing his application, Johns Hopkins University flew Alexis and his mother to Maryland to visit campus in March. The visit was his first time on a plane.
“I flew to Baltimore with my mother for the first time and spent an entire day at the Johns Hopkins Campus,” said Alexis. “It was then that I realized this is where I want to spend the next four years of my life — at the world’s most renowned research institution.”
One of four children of a local landscaper and stay-at-home mom, Alexis has a long resume of academic and community success.
Although Manson High won’t select its 2024 Valedictorian until mid-May when trimester grades are in, Alexis’ 3.99 GPA ensures he will be among the students considered for the honor.
Manson High School provided the activity sheet listing all the activities and accolades Alexis has earned since 9th grade (see below). It reflects a well-rounded, high-achieving young man with the drive to accomplish much more — qualities that caught the attention of the Johns Hopkins admission team.
Alexis’ mom Olivia could not contain her pride in her son’s accomplishments. “I am very proud to be Alexis’ mother and for this achievement he has achieved because he is an incredible son. He is also very dedicated, responsible, and always works hard to achieve his goals,” she said.
“I know that this is just one step that he has taken to achieve his goals but I know that he will always be able to achieve everything he set out to do.”

Born and raised in Manson, Alexis is both nervous and excited about living and learning on the other side of the country. He said he is most excited about “the research opportunity and innovated equipment that Johns Hopkins provides. Like the da Vinci Surgical System for undergraduates.”
On the flip side, he knows there will be a bit of “culture shock, as well as missing my family, my community and living by myself.”
Alexis leaves for Johns Hopkins in August.
